TRAGEDY OF OBBLEREW AT THE EAST

Obblerew descended the stairs unto a great field. His ten bravest warriors trail behind him as a fog lies thick in the air. The company paused, as Obblrew held up his journal and murmured to himself, “1000 paces beyond the wolfrock, down the great stairs, and now.... 1000 paces straight.”

Obblerew’s long journey was coming to an end. It was many weeks since discovering the Far-Seer tower, reading Elemental 2’s notebook, and departing for Ral-Morte-Dar. What was it that drove Elemental 2 to these lands? Obblerew had studied the writings of Elemental 2 to great extent- pure genius. He may have written in extravagant words and fancy flourishes with his runes, but a genius nonetheless.

789....790...791...

Through the fog, an elevated rock with jagged teeth lie in front of them. The feeling of unease grew stronger and stronger amongst the dwarven company. The soldiers drew their axes and became more quick with their glances.

997... 998...

And before them, lie a large stone. A staircase was chiseled into the boulder, leading up to a black throne. There upon that throne, the dwarves could make out the silhouette of a figure. It spoke out;

“Welcome guests, to what do we owe the pleasure of your visit?” The voice was old, but warm enough. Obblerew answered;

“We walk the path of one from our history, in order to discover what may be found of his journey.”

“I see, and I take it that you were brought here by what you have discovered in a particular tower have you not?”

“We have... how do you know this? Please, come closer so we may speak more personably”

“You would ask the elderly to leave their chair? Let us continue- yes we do know of this tower, and we do know of the one whom you seek. Yet we do not know of you.”

“I am Obblerew, 6th elemental of the Mithril Alliance.”

There was a short pause. “How delightful, and so you come to seek the fate of the second elemental do you not? He came to these lands decades ago.”

“Yes! Yes exactly- who are you? How do you know of these things?!”

The figure rose from his throne, and moved forward until it was fully viable. “Why, I am elemental 2 my dear guest.”

Gasps emerged from the dwarven guard. Obblerew replied “How can this be? Is this a trick? Surely you were ripe with age as you departed, and as 5 decade have passed you still stand before me?”

Elemental 2 chuckled lightly “My boy, your eyes do not deceive. I stand before you as real as ever! And yet I remain more powerful now than I ever was amongst the dwarves. The power of this place- do you feel it?”

Obblerew’s teeth began to clench as he slowly unsheathed his axe. “All I feel, Elemental, is the darkness in the air.”

Elemental 2’s smile began turning from warm to vile “Ah yes- ‘darkness’ the fruit forbidden. Many fear that which they do not understand, but here I remain alive, and strong, and able to rule more than any king, or whatever title we make up to deem power... but you, Obblerew, have done well to make it this far. You have proven cunning and wise, just the kind of dwarf I need for for my growing army.”

“I’m afraid I will not be joining you, dear elemental, and it seems that by Baulshek’s will, I shall need to do to you what old age was supposed to do to you many years ago.”

Elemental 2 raised his arm and the fog became thick behind Obblerew. Within seconds, the screams of dwarven warriors cried out of the fog. One warrior was seen almost escaping the fog and joining Obblrew’s side, but was pulled back in by a force unknown.

“My men!” Growled Obblerew, “What have you done with them?”

“Fear not” Elemental 2 replied, his voice growing more deep, dark, and distorted. “For they shall awaken soon.” Elemental 2 began levitating in place, slowly descending from his throne down to Obblerew “And you! I was not inviting you to join, I was telling you. We too shall be allies very soon- we too shall be free.”

As Obblerew looked around, figures started crawling out of the dirt all around him. Surrounded by the undead, Obblerew fought for as long as he could, until there was fighting no more.
